The Path to COP26

In just 12 months’ time, the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP26) comes to Glasgow. The conference, organised by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) – will take place in Glasgow, Scotland in 2021.

In 2021, the eyes of the world will be focused on Scotland, when senior politicians from across the globe convene in Glasgow to negotiate the acceleration of efforts to tackle climate change. COP26 will be the most important climate summit since the landmark Paris Agreement was ratified at COP21 in 2015.

To limit global warming to 1.5 °C, as agreed in Paris, CO2 emissions must fall by about 45 percent by 2030 from a 2010 baseline.

Over the years, we at Ethical Futures have sought to play a role in explaining the role of finance in making positive changes in the world that we live in. We’ve done that not only by advising clients about ethical and sustainable products but by engaging with various organisations to spread the message, debate the issues, challenge investment managers and enable other advisers to participate in sustainable investing with their clients too.

We are long standing participants in the Ethical Finance Roundtable (EFRT), held regularly in Edinburgh and from that became involved in the development of the Ethical Finance Hub (EFH). The Ethical Finance Hub sought to position Scotland as a centre of excellence in responsible and sustainable finance. These activities now come under the wider umbrella of the Global Ethical Finance Initiative (GEFI)

In preparation for the coming of COP26, Ethical Futures have signed up to the GEFI Declaration committing to use our resources to spread the word about how your money can have an impact on climate change. In addition to this, we are looking at what practical things we can do to advance this cause.
